Week A
Fairfield operates a two-week timetable, details of which will be in your child’s planner. This panel will show you which week we are currently on and allow you to check future dates.

Design & Technology

Technology subjects play their part in ensuring every student studies a broad and balanced curriculum. During Key Stage 3 students complete a range of learning experiences across the faculty by spending time in each area, ensuring that all students are able to make informed choices for GCSE. Currently we are offering a range of courses in KS4 - Food, Engineering, Computing and Construction.

In KS3 students experience each area during the year, learning to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating; designing and making products from wood, plastic and other materials; learning the basics of computing and developing practical skills in all areas.

Technology prepares students to better understand what is around them in the material world and develops both creativity and critical thinking skills.

Year 11 GCSE Food Technology students visited Jamie Oliver’s

On Tuesday 2nd March 20 Year 11 GCSE Food Technology students visited Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant in Cheltenham. As part of their Summer exam the students need to study two food designers; Jamie Oliver and Heston Blumenthal. The visit was incredibly useful as part of their investigation. Students had a tour of the restaurant, including the kitchen where they saw real-life examples of industrial equipment - including a £25,000 pasta machine! Students then observed black (squid ink) pasta being made. The day ended with a two-course lunch which included, to start: anti pasti planks, crispy squid, polenta chips and homemade foccacia. For their main course, students had: vegetable bolognese, risotto, pasta with salamis in a buttery sauce with onions and peppers and a squid and mussel spaghetti nero, (made using black spaghetti). The day was enjoyed by all.

My Cooking Counts has been launched for years 7 & 8. As part of the new KS3 Cooking & Nutrition curriculum, students are required to make a wide selection of healthy, savoury dishes throughout KS3. The food technology department have now launched an online recipe book for students to log recipes made at home, outside of lesson time, noting food commodities handled and cooking skills used.

Students will be certificated when they reach milestones within each term. All students in years 7 & 8 will be given a username (which is their first name and last name, all one word, with capitals for the first letters of first name and surname) and a randomly allocated password. Students are encourage to upload their own recipes, especially with photos of their final product. Access from the link above, or use the shortcut on the Students menu.
